BOOST

What is BOOST?

BOOST stands for Building Opportunities for Organizations using our Strengths and Talents.

In the past, the Comox Valley Women’s Business Network has supported local organizations – the the Comox Valley Women’s Centre and the Comox Valley Transition Society – by donating proceeds from raffles and 50/50 draws. Other times we have gathered clothing and toiletries and donated them to women in need.

We developed BOOST to provide an opportunity for members to support one organization for a year and help it to increase it’s profile and internal capacity. Our membership has a wealth of diverse talent and skill, and we’d like to share it with a deserving organization!

What can my business offer?

Think carefully about the chosen organization and see whether your business provides something that might assist the business. If there isn’t something that seems appropriate, consider donating time, perhaps with a couple of other members. If the organization knew that a few members could help out for a few hours, they might call on you. We all know how good it feels to help a worthy cause!

Are there any rules?

BOOST is not a sales opportunity, it is an opportunity to freely give of your time and talent to a local organization. At no time may any member of the organization – staff, volunteers or clients - be “sold to”.

What’s in it for me?

We’re glad you asked. Doing charitable work benefits everyone – the person donating service, the organization receiving service and the community as a whole. The WBN will be promoting BOOST in press releases, although will not be mentioning each business per se. Mentions about participation in BOOST may become part of introductions at the monthly WBN meetings.

Which organization will benefit in 2011/2012?

The WBN board has selected the Comox Valley Transition Society as the 2011/2012 BOOST recipient.

How can I participate?

We don’t want to overwhelm our chosen organization, so a small group on the WBN board will carefully review each offer and present it to the organization so that they may decide if they can not use your offer at this time. If they are ready to accept your offer of help, the organization will contact you directly. If they can not use your offer at this time, they will keep your application on file until such time as they can.
