According to legend, Minerva was the virgin goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce & craft. She is often depicted with an owl – a symbol of wisdom.
The Minerva Award is presented annually to recognize a business member within the Comox Valley Women’s Business Network who gives freely of her experience, time and energy to the organization and to our members. This member is someone who has been instrumental in the growth of the Comox Valley Women’s Business Network, who has assisted others in the network and who has been a leader in our membership.
The award consists of a sculpture which bears each recipient’s name and is held by the yearly recipient to be passed on each year. The recipient is also gifted an engraved locket to wear proudly.
Minerva Committee
To nominate one of the Comox Valley Women’s Business Network’s members for the Minerva Award, members submit an ‘Application for Minerva Award’ form which gives the nominator an opportunity to describe what the nominee has done to enrich the collective experience in the WBN. This form is available on the website, or from the current WBN secretary.
Nomination forms are given to the award committee which consists of the two previous winners of this award. This committee reviews the applications and makes the final decision on the award’s recipient. The presentation of the award is made at the May meeting each year.
